Kym Ellery
Kym Ellery (b. April, 1983, Perth, Western Australia)
Kym Ellery is a Paris-based artist and designer working at the intersection of sculpture, furniture, and collectible objects. Born into a creative household in Perth, Western Australia, she was accepted into university to study architecture but chose instead to pursue design as an autodidact, eventually relocating to Paris in 2015. There, she developed a practice centred on metal; inox, brass, and metallic resin; materials she has long explored through design and jewellery within her brand ELLERY.
Since 2023, Ellery has focused on producing sculptural works whose physical presence is softened by fluid curves and refined surfaces. Seats, kinetic sculptures, and candelabrums seem barely placed on the ground, on the verge of levitation. The shapes are wide, enveloping. To this softness, these meditative works of art add the projection of a point of agreement that seems to reach your heart to perhaps calm it better. Her objects articulate gravity, balance, and emotional resonance, drawing on a deep understanding of the body while suggesting spaces of stillness, rest, and contemplation.
"My practice is rooted in architectural form, material tension, and the relationship between object and body. I work primarily with metals; materials that hold weight, memory, and permanence; shaped into sculptural pieces that invite both physical and visual interaction. These works often explore the edge between intimacy and distance, stillness and movement, structure and softness. Many pieces can be touched, sat in, or moved. Kinetic elements are introduced to create a sense of calm, responsiveness, and presence. A gesture or subtle shift might echo the rhythm of the body, gently altering how one experiences space."
Ellery has exhibited widely, including Gagosian at Home, Paris (2025); Pavone curated by Ashlee Harrison, Paris (2024); THEMA, Paris (2023–24); Matter and Shape, Paris (2024); Art Paris with Hélène Bailly Gallery (2024–25); Parallel–Parallel, duo show at Saint-Anne Gallery, Paris (2024) and Unique Design X, Mexico City (2025), Alcova, Milan (2025) & CAN Art Fair, Ibiza (2024) with Soleille Gallery. In 2025 she also participated in a group exhibition curated by Isolde Pringiers and Stéphanie Frederickx (Brussels); NOMAD (Abu Dhabi) & Against Nature (London) with Bureau of Innovation; and TERRA, Burgundy.
