Domitilla Harding
Domitilla Harding is an artist and a designer whose energy is rooted in history and the soul of popular crafts. Raised in Rome, she cut her formal education short to follow her own path, delving into various disciplines, including photography, textiles, fashion and exploring how these different mediums inform one another.
Reinterpreting traditional costume, she created the fashion label Miss Italy, a line of clothing produced entirely by hand in her studio near Siena. After leading the label from 1996 to 2011, she shifted her focus to ceramics and glass.
"Glass allows me to push techniques beyond their traditional boundaries."
Starting in 2012, with a blank slate of technical knowledge, she set out to experiment with glass and has since worked with the glassblowers of Murano to challenge the medium’s constraints. By stressing the medium to achieve a weathered grain, she creates objects that lie between the translucency of sedimentary stone and the roughness of a turned clay pot. In its form, each piece carries a sense of theatrical peril—intentionally constructed to feel vulnerable in its stillness, caught and anchored between movement and pause.
