made by ASTRONAUTS

made by ASTRONAUTS is an Athens-based collective founded by Greek artist Danae Dasyra and British artist Joe Bradford, specialising in limited edition sculptural objects.

made by ASTRONAUTS subvert conventional industrial manufacturing techniques as they self fabricate
their work within the limitation of the workshop. The act of making becomes the emphasis, where a material or process dictate and design is merely a response. Enabled by proximity to the objects’ evolution, the duo works sculpturally, reaching their distinctive aesthetic.
In their debut project they works with the industrial process of Hydroforming, exploring the relationship
between pressure and metal. The pieces are studies of what can happen when complex sealed shells made from geometric nets are inflated using a water.

“Through our work, we invite people to imagine stories about our pieces’ origins and function, challenge their perception of objects and aesthetics, and discover beauty in the atypical.”

Dasyra & Bradford completed their studies in Three Dimensional Design: Idea, Material, Object (IMO) at
Bath Spa University. Their shared academic foundation established a common language around material
exploration and process experimentation. Upon graduation Joe was nominated for the Perrier-Jouët Arts
Salon Prize by Max Frazer and exhibited work at Future Heritage – Decorex. While Danae was invited as
Guest Tutor to conduct series of lectures at Bath Spa University. In the following years, they both led
independent careers in the creative field, working in various projects as part of contemporary practices
including Bethan Laura Wood, Tom Price. The duo joined their respective yet complimentary skills towards a shared vision in 2023. Soon after made by ASTRONAUTS was awarded the Guglielmo Papaleo Research Grant (IT), nominated for the Ralph Saltzman Prize, organised by Design Museum of London and shortlisted in Design Parade held at Villa Noalles (FR). Their works have been included in exhibitions internationally, including during Salone del Mobile, Miami & Mexico City Art Week, with their latest show held at Nina Johnson Gallery in Miami.
