A Play of Light and Wonder

Reintroducing the Chandelier as a Main Character

Long before lighting became discreet, it carried a sense of wonder. Throughout the twentieth century, designers and master glassmakers gave form to light through remarkable compositions. From the poetic craftsmanship of Murano glass to the sculptural visions of Gio PontiPietro Chiesa and Hans Agne Jakobsson, these monumental pieces hover between decoration and architecture.

Cascading lights, branching forms and luminous bouquets reveal the richness of cut crystal, coloured glass and opaline transparencies, their reflections lending softness and depth to a room. At once theatrical and quietly imposing, they speak of an age when ceilings were not merely overhead, but stages for some of design’s most imaginative gestures.
