S. Campos, Giuseppe Scapinelli 1950: o designer da Emoção. Éditions Artemobilia, 2015 p. 46 et al.
Designed by Giuseppe Scapinelli, this pair of vintage armchairs was crafted in Brazil in the 1950s and offers a bold reinterpretation of the classic bergère typology. These particular examples feature a low back version, where the wooden strips in the back soften the verticality of the structure while enhancing its sculptural presence. The open rhythm of the backrest invites a three dimensional reading of the piece, revealing the designer’s ability to balance comfort, structure, and expressive form.
