Wood, acrylic paint, polyester coating
The Nephe chest of drawer extends Filippo Carandini’s investigation into painting as structure, treating the surface as a field for layered chromatic depth. Hand-painted in multiple layers of acrylic, it reveals a slow accumulation of tones, where blacks, violets and subdued colors emerge through a process of gradual stratification. Silver leaf, applied by hand along the base, introduces a subtle luminous edge that contrasts with the density of the painted surface. This metallic intervention catches and reflects light, defining a quiet transition between opacity and reflection. Named after Nephe, the ancient Greek word for “cloud,” the piece conveys a suspended atmospheric quality, where surface and light remain in continuous transformation.
