Anita Morvillo
Anita Morvillo was born in Varese (IT) on May 16, 1992. She graduated in 2018 with a degree in Architecture at the Mendrisio Academy of Architecture (USI), completing most of her academic training under the guidance of architect Valerio Olgiati, with who she developed a strong conceptual design approach rooted in the primacy of the idea. A study period with Dutch architect Anne Holtrop allowed her to deepen her research into material experimentation and processing. After graduating, she began conducting independent research in the field of sculptural design, while simultaneously working as an architect and as a Teaching Assistant for Swiss architect Angela Deuber at the Mendrisio Academy of Architecture and at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design in Norway. Anita Morvillo subsequently worked for several years as a project assistant for the italian architect and designer Riccardo Blumer keeping developing her works as a complex path of research and experimentation.
Anita Morvillo’s design research is inherently multifaceted by conceiving her works through the synergy between expert handcraft and the use of advanced industrial technologies. Inspired by forms traceable to the nature of plants, roots, flowers, insects and the skeletal structures of amphibians and aquatic animals, she engages in a process of empathy and abstraction, translating their modes of existence into new forms. Since 2020, Anita Morvillo has been developing a practice that unfolds as a complex path of research and experimentation, resulting in unique pieces primarily in lighting design as well as fashion accessories. Her work explores the intersection between her natural inclination for expert handcraft—continuously enriched through various artisanal techniques—and advanced industrial processes. She draws inspiration from the resources of her studio’s location in Varese, Northern Italy, a region renowned for its cutting-edge industrial facilities specializing in diverse mechanical processes and for its skilled artisans mastering a wide range of traditional techniques.
