Alexander May

Alexander May is a New York, Los Angeles and Paris-based fine artist and creative director whose work is shaped by a clear, disciplined understanding of form. Working across interiors, furniture, exhibitions and spatial concepts, he approaches each project with the sensibility of an artist and the rigour of an architect.

His perspective begins with a refusal of decoration. For May, decoration often conceals more than it reveals. What matters instead is the frame, the structure, proportion and atmosphere that allow a space or object to breathe. He is less interested in invention for its own sake than in recognition, uncovering the inherent logic already present within a chair, a table, a wall or a room, then refining it until it feels bare, exact and inevitable.

"Form held by clarity, liberated by imagination."

This way of working gives his practice a rare sense of composure. Proportion becomes discipline. Material becomes language. Light becomes the final author. The result is work that does not demand attention through excess, but earns it through restraint, clarity and presence.

May’s fine art background remains central to this approach. It informs not only the aesthetic quality of his work, but also its patience and precision. He builds environments and objects that feel as though they have been discovered rather than imposed, shaped by reduction, balance and a deep respect for time as part of the creative process.

Across all disciplines, Alexander May’s work is guided by a singular aim: to create forms and spaces that feel necessary, enduring and quietly complete, as if they had always been there, waiting to be seen.
