DESIGNER

Arthur Edwards

Arthur Edwards (1930–2009) was an internationally renowned design consultant whose work influenced furniture manufacturing across Europe, America, and Asia. Trained at the Royal College of Art in London, he was recognized as a Fellow of the British Chartered Society of Designers and a member of the American Society of Designers.

An authority on the reinterpretation of 18th- and 19th-century European period furniture for contemporary living, Edwards dedicated his career to combining historical design principles with modern functionality. He also pursued a lifelong study of furniture ergonomics, seeking to enhance comfort and usability without compromising aesthetic quality.

"When I design a piece of furniture I am thinking - will this chair, this table, this cabinet still be desirable in 15 or even 50 years' time?"

Many of his designs remain in production today and are sold in furniture stores around the world. His innovative work, including award-winning designs crafted in rattan and other natural materials, earned numerous international accolades and established his reputation as a leading figure in furniture design.

Arthur Edwards passed away in 2009, leaving a lasting legacy in the field of industrial and furniture design.
