DESIGNER

Axel Einar Hjorth

Axel Einar Hjorth (1888–1959) was a Swedish furniture designer known for blending tradition with modernism. Born in Krokek, he studied design in Stockholm but left early due to personal hardship. In the 1920s and ’30s, he gained prominence through work with Nordiska Kompaniet and international exhibitions. Hjorth’s bold, eclectic style combined neoclassicism, Art Deco, and Swedish Grace. His 1930s Sportstugemöbler collection, crafted from pine, remains iconic for its fusion of rural tradition and modern design.
