DESIGNER
Gino Sarfatti

Gino Sarfatti (1912–1985) was a key figure in Italian industrial design, creating over 700 luminaires for Arteluce, the company he founded in 1939. His innovative designs brought lighting into the 20th century by merging cutting-edge ideas with functional aesthetics.
"I start with a problem and try to solve it, through function and rationality."
Originally studying aeronautical engineering, Sarfatti’s path shifted to lighting design after relocating to Milan, where he transformed a glass vase into a lamp. His career was marked by exploration of new materials, technologies, and production methods. After retiring in 1973, Arteluce was acquired by Flos.
