Martin Eisler & Carlo Hauner

Carlo Hauner, architect, artist and designer of Bohemian origin, was born in Brescia in 1927 and trained at the Brera Academy in Milan. After participating as a painter in several group exhibitions and the Venice Biennale in 1948, he moved to Brazil, where he devoted himself to the design of fabrics, ceramics, furniture and architecture. Taking over a factory owned by Lina Bo Bardi, in 1950 he founded the company Moveis Artesanal in São Paulo; here he met the Austrian designer Martin Eisler (Vienna, 1913 – Brazil, 1977) in 1953, with whom he partnered to set up Galeria Artesanal in the same year and later Forma. The Brazilian experience was an opportunity to deepen his knowledge of tropical woods and the way materials such as iron and rattan were worked. The result is modern furniture characterised by a refined and modern aesthetic
