Piero Fornasetti

Artist, designer and entrepreneur, he is among the icons of 20th century Italian design. In the 1940s, he founded his eponymous design and decorative arts atelier in Milan. From his meeting with Gio Ponti, the intuition: to produce everyday objects – porcelain, furniture and furnishing accessories – embellished with the hypnotic decorativism of his graphic works. Among his most famous works are the ‘Architettura’ trumeau exhibited at the 9th Triennale in 1951 and the ‘Tema e Variazioni’ series, which declines the portrait of Lina Cavalieri in countless variations, now iconic. He is a witness and winner, with his work, of the challenge of design to survive time.
