Renata Boero

Renata Boero was born in Genoa, spent her childhood in Turin, and later moved to Switzerland, where she pursued studies in the humanities. Upon returning to Genoa, she enrolled in the Art High School, where she was a student of Emilio Scanavino. In 1959, she exhibited a work at the Quadriennale in Rome, an event she also participated in in 1986 and 1999. In the 1960s, she worked as a restorer with Caterina Marcenaro, and from this experience, the idea emerged that the canvas, in order to interact with space, must be free from the frame. She also began an exciting documentation project on natural substances, which led to the creation of her Cromograms. In 1974, she introduced the series of Mirrors, and with these works—one of which was first exhibited in 1978 at the International Cultureel Centrum in Antwerp—she was invited to the Venice Biennale in 1982. Since the 1980s, she has continued her artistic research, engaging in various series: Blu di legno, Architetture, Enigmi, Crani, Acquerelli di San Diego, up to her current work with the Germinazioni. Renata Boero lives and works in Milan.
