DESIGNER
Tobia Scarpa

Tobia Scarpa, son of architect Carlo Scarpa, was born in Venice in 1935. He graduated in architecture from IUAV in 1957 and shortly afterwards married Afra Bianchin, with whom he founded a studio in Montebelluna. They began their career with the Pigreco chair for Gavina (later Knoll), an innovative design that launched them into the world of design. They collaborated with companies such as Cassina, Meritalia and Flos, creating iconic objects such as the Poltroncina 925, the Libertà chair and the Soriana armchair, winner of the Compasso d’Oro in 1970. In the field of architecture, they designed villas, palaces and important factories, including the first Benetton factory. In 2008 Tobia was awarded the Compasso d’Oro for his career.
