Geraldo De Barros
(Chavantes, 1923 — São Paulo, 1998)
A tireless experimenter in the field of furniture and visual arts, Geraldo de Barros was among the most influential Brazilian artists of the XX Century. His aspiration towards a utopian world led him to found Unilabor in 1954, a workers-owned cooperative capable of producing modernist furniture for all social classes. A supporter of the social function of design, his furnishings’ visual vocabulary was influenced by his artistic experiences close to concrete and minimalist art.
