A graduate of Central Saint Martins, milan-based designer Filippo Carandini has previously worked as an art director at Baleri italia and Palomba Serafini Associati. In 2011, Carandini started his own studio with a focus on interior design and his furniture emphasizes bold color schemes, rich textures and subtle artistic references.
The pictorial element comes to the fore in the Pluteo bookcase thanks to the hand-painted back panel in wood that draws in the viewer. Part of the New Pompeii furniture series, the sumptuous, blue/green toned acrylic paint seemingly depicts a vivid fragment of the past. Topped off with a high-gloss finish, the vivid color scheme contrasts with the dark, sober frame in steel and shelves in glass.
