Cactus collection
Lebanon, 2021
Black MicroCast
Designed by George Mohasseb and developed in collaboration with Matterlab, the Cactus Collection stands as a significant exploration of resilience and transformation. Inspired by the ability of cactus to grow and thrive in adverse environments, the collection reflects on how nature adapts to challenging conditions while maintaining strength and beauty. Rather than reproducing the plant literally, the collection translates its essence into sculptural furniture pieces that evoke endurance, protection, and organic growth. The forms suggest the quiet power of survival and the elegance that emerges through adaptation. Materials are carefully selected to reinforce the connection to nature and geological processes. Marble and limestone particles form the core of the pieces, emphasizing mineral strength and timelessness. Crushed and recycled marble is combined with resin and poured into 3D-printed molds, where it is cast into textured, organic shapes that echo the irregular yet harmonious forms found in natural landscapes. This process allows each piece to maintain a unique surface and structure, reinforcing the idea of growth shaped by environmental forces.
