Locus Solus series
Italy, 1967. Manufactured Poltronova
Enamelled tubular metal
Designed by Gae Aulenti in 1964, the Locus Solus outdoor furniture series is a timeless icon. Its name, taken from Raymond Roussel’s novel, reflects a fusion of Neo-Liberty influences and an irreverent creative language that strips the design of any pompousness. Reimagined through a pop aesthetic, its forms explore curves and overlapping elements, breaking free from the rigid functionalism that had previously defined metal tubular furniture. Through these creations, Gae Aulenti also explores the expressive potential of color applied to metal. Today, Locus Solus stands as an emblem of eternal design—an innovative and conceptual masterpiece that remains as contemporary as ever.
