Phillip Lloyd Powell, studio catalog, unpaginated illustrates variation of Paul Evan's lamp
Designed by Paul Evans in the USA in 1969, this rare floor lamp combines torch-cut, welded, gilt and enameled steel with a bronze base and a silk lampshade. Originating from Evans’ experiments with welded and enameled sculpture in the early 1960s, the piece reflects his ability to transform functional objects into expressive artworks. It captures the distinctive character that first drew the attention of Directional and foreshadows the innovative use of materials and refined, minimal forms that Evans would continue to explore throughout his career.
