Steel, velvet upholstery
Designed by Made by ASTRONAUTS, the Chair Charybdis draws on the historical threads linking early modern witch trials to culturally charged constructions of womanhood. Between the 15th and 17th centuries, female knowledge and embodied practices were often positioned at the margins as emerging systems of authority sought to regulate and contain alternative forms of care. Within this framework, the chair becomes a sculptural site of tension and instability, evoking the complexities surrounding female agency and the ways domestic space can hold histories of control, ambiguity and resistance.
