PAD LONDON 2024
Nilufar, the renowned Milanese design gallery, returns to PAD Design + Art to present its signature offering of vintage treasures and contemporary collectible design. Under the discerning eye of founder Nina Yashar, Nilufar features a pair of stunning displays at this year's edition. At Booth B16, there is a meticulously curated selection of designers and visionaries whose contributions have left an indelible mark on the evolution of design. From iconic pieces that defined past eras to avant-garde creations marked by modern aesthetics, this exhibit offers a journey through the history of design. Additionally, at Booth C12, there is a dedicated space for the unveiling of Delhi-based designer Vikram Goyal's latest body of work. Goyal's distinctive style, blending cultural influences with contemporary sensibilities, takes center stage, offering a fresh perspective on design and craftsmanship.
At Booth B16, Nilufar offers contemporary innovation seamlessly merged with vintage elegance via a sensory feast of design treasures. Among the contemporary pieces, the unique copper alloy artworks by Israeli-American designer Shlomo Harush, including ‘Please Do Not Sit’, ‘Unpacked’, ‘Over and Over’, ‘X‐Mix‐Drix’, and ‘Untitled’, are a testament to modern ingenuity. Illuminating the space with an ethereal glow is ‘Vai o Stai’ ceiling lamp by Italian designer Maximilian Marchesani, together with ‘Bellagio’ floor lamp and two ‘Spring’ wall lamps from the Fontana Amorosa collection by London-based Cypriot designer Michael Anastassiades. The ‘Golden Landscape’ tapestry by Colombian designer Hechizoo, created by Jorge Lizarazo, adds a touch of depth. Italian artist Allegra Hicks ‘Metamorphosis Cube’ low bronze tables beckon with their graceful lines and understated elegance, along with the sculptural materiality of French-Lebanese artist Flavie Audi's ‘Tender Erosion 1’ low table, complemented by ‘Slice & Dice #9’ mirror created by the masterful hands of Martino Gamper. Adding a touch of whimsy and intrigue are ‘Delta Pan Uno’ and ‘Delta Pan Duo’ wall lamps by French designer Robinson Ferreux, casting playful shadows and transforming the ambiance with their dynamic presence. Meanwhile, ‘CEEME’, ‘CRB’, ‘PHORCY’, and ‘NERES’ sculptures by Greek artist Anestis Michalis invites reflection, each piece a testament to the power of artistic expression. Rounding out the contemporary showcase is ‘Pneu SAX21’ carpet by Italian duo Caturegli and Formica, its intricate patterns and textures inviting tactile exploration.
The vintage selection from Nilufar sees a pair of 1950s American design armchairs by James Mont and a Mid-century chest of drawers produced by Directional in the 1960s, which reveal the enduring appeal of craftsmanship, together with a 1970s ‘Fungo’ table lamp from the ‘Rising Sun’ series by Italian designer Gabriella Crespi and a ‘Mod. 12383’ floor lamp by Angelo Lelii as symbols of retro charm, and two pairs of armchairs and a ‘Maracanã’ low table by Giuseppe Scapinelli and a ‘Capri’ low table by Jorge Zalsupin, that epitomize the elegance and comfort of Mid-century Brazilian design.
Vikram Goyal's Booth C12 features a captivating series of new limited-edition pieces including ‘Shaded Graphite’ cabinet, ‘Mesa’ console, ‘Flow’ side tables (three unique pieces), mirror and sconce, each meticulously crafted by the acclaimed Indian designer, and the ‘Turtle Giant Syriacus’ floor lamp in Murano glass and steel from Clori Collection by Christian Pellizzari. From sleek consoles to exquisite cabinets and versatile side tables, Goyal's collection embodies a perfect blend of tradition and modernity. Illuminating the space are his lighting fixtures and mirror.
