Lola Montes’ Imagined Garden
Ceramics and paper become vessels for memory and transformation as Lola Montes conceives two site-specific interventions for Nilufar Grand Hotel. In the Lobby, a bespoke reception desk unfolds beneath sculpted magnolia blossoms drifting across a crystalline violet ground. Hand-modelled clay, volcanic ash from Mount Etna and the alchemy of fire shape each terracotta tile, balanced by a Pompeii-red countertop.
The narrative continues in the Dining Room with the Aloe Candelabra flower drawings. Vermilion blooms, stained into delicate Japanese paper with specially prepared pigments, move in fluid, calligraphic rhythms, echoing Utamaro’s Songs of the Garden while returning to a flower long cherished as an emblem of resilience and renewal.
