Pine wood
SESC Pompéia; USP (Universidade de São Paulo)
Manufactured by Laminarco in 1979–1980, the SECS bench was conceived for the Centro de Lazer Fábrica da Pompéia (later known as SESC Pompéia), one of Lina Bo Bardi’s most emblematic architectural projects in São Paulo. Designed in Pinus elliottii wood, the bench extends the same philosophy that defined the SECS furniture series—an approach rooted in accessibility, community, and the honest expression of structure and material. Its linear, modular form invites collective use and social interaction, transforming a simple seating element into a space for gathering and exchange. Embodying Bo Bardi’s belief in the social and ethical role of design, the SECS bench remains a timeless symbol of Brazilian modernism’s humanist ideals and the architect’s enduring legacy.
