Achille e Pier Giacomo Castiglioni

Achille Castiglioni (Milano, 1918 – 2002) & Pier Giacomo Castiglioni (Milano, 1913 – 1968)

The design activity of the Castiglioni brothers had been characterized by a continuous, technical and formal, experimentation. They employed different shapes – geometric, organic and unreal – obtained with a distorting technique recalling the Dadaist experiences. Considered among the greatest lighting designers of all times, they rethought the very idea of lamp, suggesting its free use. They did not give up on research, experimenting with new technologies and materials, including the cocoon resin and its feature allowing to donate a magical and warm effect to the filtered light.
