Gio Ponti
(Milano, 1891 – 1979)
“Every piece of furniture, despite being always functional, must concern the imagination of those who design it and those who look at it.”
A multifaceted character, in his long career Gio Ponti investigated art, architecture and design with an inexhaustible curiosity, giving life to a very personal vision for the spaces we call home. His ability to read contemporary taste, while ceaselessly interpreting it, allowed him to design objects able to nourish the soul of the modern man. Ships, hotels and trains became his workshops of modernity, a perfect set for expressing his innovative and artistic imprint. For him, being a designer was more of a passion rather than a profession, and he never stopped looking for the meeting point between beauty, form, functionality and imagination.
