Hans Wegner

(Tønder, 1914 – Copenhagen, 2007)

“Many foreigners have asked me how we made the Danish style. And I’ve answered that it was rather a continuous process of purification.”

Promoter of a synergy between modernity, craftsmanship and functionality, Hans Wegner is considered a leading figure in Scandinavian organic modernism. Obsessed with the design of the perfect seat, he drew over 500 prototypes, revealing his talent as a wood craftsman as well as an interpreter of an expressive and sculptural functionalism.
