Hechizoo

More than 2.500 fibers rest at the Hechizoo workshop. They lay there, silently organized in this huge warehouse, waiting for some weaver’s hands or new artisanal hands to select them and turn them into tapestry creation material, rugs, textiles, and objects that will travel around the world perpetuating these techniques and concoctions. Metals suchas copper, silver, bronze and pewter, nylon, cotton threads, natural fibers that have been obtained from exotic woods like yaré and cumare, seem to be talking among them and making up an unsuspecting dance of fabrics each time that Jorge Lizarazo and his team embark in the creation of a new piece. The result: fabrics that brag about a peculiar beauty, that which results from unexpected blends.

The workshop, located in the popular neighborhood of 20 de Julio, in the depths of Bogota, is a sort of New York style loft that holds 28 horizontal and vertical weaving looms created and adjusted to the size of particular demands they receive every day. It also guards the artisan and patient hands of 60 creators who come in every morning with the intention of giving life and form to these complex blends that Jorge Lizarazo has visualized in his mind. “One of the largest convictions that gave life to Hechizoo, was to give people back their ability to dream, to believe that they can live from the work performed by their hands, from the knowledge they learned from their grandparents, that it was literally possible to weave their destiny”, tells the designer, who has made of this huge space given to him by his mon, a space that is friendly and pleasant house of all his accomplices and employees.
