SALON New York - 2019
Park Avenue Armory, 643 Park Avenue
New York, NY, USA
For the 2019 edition of Salon Art+Design, Nilufar brings to New York a fine selection of contemporary furniture by Martino Gamper, Brigitte Niedermair, Bethan Laura Wood, Massimiliano Locatelli, Destroyers/Builders, Audrey Large and Domitilla Harding, mixed up with important historical pieces. Far from laying in the background, the vintage core of Nilufar’s identity stands with works of Italian and Brazilian masters such as Gio Ponti, Ignazio Gardella, Joaquim Tenreiro and Abraham Palatnik.
The entire set up is enriched with collages by artist Louise Nevelson. The installation, conceived by Nina Yashar, is characterized by the predominance of the earthy tones of Brigitte Niedermair' and Martino Gamper's carpets, which define the space while dividing it into three areas. The first ambience, on shades of blue, is a living room where the protagonist is the chandelier by Bethan Laura Wood, a rare sofa and two armchairs by Joaquim Tenreiro, the bookshelf by Ignazio Gardella on the background, in which the atmosphere is sober and elegant. Two brushed brass étagère by Destroyers/Builders mark the passage in a second living room where the sinuous sofa and armchairs by Tenreiro catch the eye, thanks to the luminous anthracite fabric of their covering. The third area is characterized by the dining table by Gamper and the Venini chandelier, where the shades of bright reds go from the floor with the carpet to the Augusto Bozzi's chairs and Ilmari Tapiovaara's seats, giving a twist of energy to the set.
