Nilufar Gallery - DESIGN WEEK 2017
In the historic spaces on Via della Spiga, Nilufar Gallery presents an important solo exhibition by a personality who can be considered the father of Brazilian design: Joaquim Tenreiro. The selection of over 40 pieces by the designer sheds light on Tenreiro’s pioneering role in the field of Brazilian modernism: furnishings of sober, essential elegance, marked by a morphology of lightness obtained through fine craftsmanship and given renewed splendour thanks to the precious coverings by Dedar and Hechizoo/Jorge Lizarazo. The furnishings by the master designer are placed in dialogue with Fontana Amorosa, the original collection of lamps designed by Michael Anastassiades.
The contemporary projects presented at the gallery include the Shapes series designed by Federico Peri: two chandeliers formed by metal segments that generate geometric shapes, on which to place luminous glass parts. Redor, the new project designed by the duo Zanellato Bortotto, is a finely decorated wall mirror inspired by the typical mirrors of Murano, reinterpreted in a contemporary way.
Among the new designers collaborating with Nilufar, Cathrine Raben Davidsen/ CRD Studio presents the Triangle collection: elegant floor lamps in the Hexagon and Cylinder versions. Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmidt has designed the DICIOTTO table lamp for Nilufar, a one-of-a-kind piece composed of a delicate interlock of 18 coloured plexiglass disks around a light source. For the first time, Nina Yashar has decided to complete the display with a selection of works by Luca Pignatelli, an internationally acclaimed artist whose work stands out for the use of unusual surfaces on which to intervene, superimposing his repertoire of images
